Our History |
"Mary's Shelter" after the Mother of Jesus, who accepted the trials involved in becoming an unwed mother with her obedient "be it done unto me according to Thy Word".
We maintain a home in North Orlando for young girls who are in a crisis pregnancy and who have no place to go. Girls who might feel that their only alternative is to have an abortion.
There are currently three other Mary's Shelters in the United States. North Orlando is the fourth shelter. Other Mary's Shelters are located in Minnesota, California and in Pennsylvania. North Orlando is patterned after them. It not only provides shelter for young women under the age of 18 years old, but also offers a complete program to help them during pregnancy and after their delivery. The shelter is open to all girls regardless of race or religion.
At the shelter, the girls are helped to develop maturity, responsibility and goal-making skills. There are programs that teach parenting, home-making, continued education and skills to earn a living to help break the welfare cycle that might exist. We work in collaboration with an adoption agency to help pregnant teenagers make an intelligent and well-informed decision regarding the future of their child; whether to parent or to place the child for adoption.
We are incorporated as a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in the State of Florida and have received our tax-exempt status.
We are currently raising funds for the operations of our facility. If you would like to help save the lives of these little ones, please consider making a tax-exempt donation to Mary's Shelter, Inc., by filling out a donation form or contacting us at marysshelter@cfl.rr.com.
